Molecules of the Modifying Agent that represent symmetrical silicones are reacting with molecular chains of PET. Firstly the Modifying Agent reacts with the most active, low molecular weight pieces of polymer chain.
We can compare this process to re-synthesis of PET, but as the base material we use not monomers, but PET oligomers. Silicon based modifier plays the role of the catalyst in the process.
This mechanism performs a double effect. On one hand toxic, low molecular weight particles are integrating back into PET chain and on the other hand, there is a significant growth of the average molecular weight of the polymer. The result is the physic-mechanical properties of the resin are restored.
